Trigonometry : A Brief History

Trigonometry was developed in light of the fact that, its need emerged at first for the study of Astronomy. The Surya Siddhanta gives a decent explanation of Ancient Indian trigonometry.

Trigonometry

Varahamihira's Pancha-Siddhantika is based on Surya Siddhanta. This covers a lot of Trigonometric principles. These principles are useful and important for Astronomical examinations.

Plane- and Spherical- Trigonometry was also addressed in detail in later works of notable Indian mathematicians of the past.

Astronomers used it to compute distances over earth and round surfaces to different planets, etc. Egypt and Babylon are home to the first known works on trigonometry.

Trigonometry Applications

Trigonometry was widely used in geography and navigation in the later years.

Trigonometry expertise assisted cartographers in creating maps. Also, the knowledge helped them in determining the position of an island in reference to longitudes and latitudes.

British India surveyors utilized trigonometry to find the peak of the world's tallest mountain. They found from a distance of almost 160 kilometers by watching it from six separate locations on the globe.

Indeed, most advanced methods and strategies adopted in Engineering, Technology, and Physical Sciences are still based on trigonometric principles.
